[FOXX] Fox Studio Fund week 15 report.

First the numbers: Last week we made a profit of $5.73 per share, or a shade under 10%. December’s increase currently stands at 28% and the cumulative profit since IPO stands at 527%. After the first two weeks of the second quarter we are running at double the target range of $3.00 per share per week and I feel confident that our delist target can be raised from $175 to $200 plus.
Most of the major action last week revolved around our Christmas releases: ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks: Road Chip’ (ALVN4), which has begun to sprout legs now that the kids are out of school; ‘Youth’ (LGIOV), which belies its age and continues to post healthy numbers as it expands its narrow base, ‘Joy’ (JOY) and ‘The Revenant’ (REVEN). The exception was the long-awaited runup of ‘Deadpool’ (DPOOL) which we have continued to hold in anticipation of the Christmas Day release of the new trailer.
Having initially held JOY short, we flipped once the tracking began to indicate a strong opening and we also saw our long position in REVEN, that we maxed out this week, pay dividends. As it now stands we remain long on all of our current releases and anticipate further increases in the stock price in the week ahead based on the combined effect of the halo effect from the Disney juggernaut and the traditional seasonal boost.
Next week should continue to see REVEN continue its platform release, having taken nearly $500,000 from four theaters in its first weekend. The major awards buzz around the movie (particularly its star Leonardo DiCaprio) should help propel it higher when it opens wide on January 8th.
Looking further ahead we are already fully invested in ‘Kung Fu Panda 3’ (PAND3) which is released wide at the end of January. I’ll talk about it more closer to the time but I’ll be surprised if this one fails to deliver. Either way you can be sure we’ll end up on the right side of the trade.
