As one of Mexico's most revered celebrities when she left for Los Angeles in 1991, Salma Hayek landed her first English-speaking role in the 1993 film Mi Vida Loca. Although Hayek had auditioned for the lead in the film, winning a lesser role was a break nonetheless, and Hayek soon found a larger audience with the 1995 film Desperado. With high-profile follow-ups such as 1996's From Dusk Till Dawn and 1997's Fools Rush In, Hayek soon established herself as one of Hollywood's top leading women.
