Cable TV operates off a different business model than the "broadcast networks"

Premium or Pay channels don't cancel shows mid-season because Nielsen ratings don't affect their income stream.  They don't care about Nielsen ratings.

"Standard" cable channels rarely cancel shows mid-season as a significant part of their income stream comes from carriage fees.  The cable services pay them to be allowed to offer them to the cable company's customers.  So they are not as reliant on ad income which is affected by Nielsen ratings.
