When you short, you sell borrowed shares at the current price. When the stock drops, you buy it back (cover) at the cheaper price, and keep
the difference. HSX keeps everything nice and simple, though, so there isn't any actual borrowing of shares like in the real market. As Catzan said, just think of "cover" as what you do to close out your short position, just like "sell" is how you close out your long positions.
