Limit orders only work if you are making a profit.. NOT to prevent losses...
Basically, HSX felt that if people used limit orders to sell, every time a stock dropped in price, this would lead to manipulation of the stocks... so you can only use a limit order to 'sell' a stock when the price RISES to a set price.
What you want to do is have a "stop loss" order to sell a stock if the price drops too much (thus limiting how much you lose) and this is not allowed by HSX.. so when you set your price to "sell" at $45.. the HSX computer figures the price is HIGHER than $45, so it triggers the sale instantly.
Again, you can't use limit orders to prevent losses... only to make profits. Hope that explains it.
