I liked Voltron as well...
If I remember correctly, there were two incarnations of Voltron that made it to American TV (the third I never saw) One version had five lions that formed a robot, and the other had a bunch of different spaceships that formed together. I'm assuming that they picked up the five lions version because it was way more popular.
Lots of cool 80's anime properties still on the market. I'd personally love to see a live action version of Gai King, or Grandizer.
