Well, speaking of realism, a pretty inflexible fantastic realism governs almost everything we see in mainstream films.
I'd want to take more time to think through this, but realism, understood as bringing the viewer into nearness with a fantastic reality which is presented plausibly, governs almost everything. The best scene in HPOT# films, I thought, was the animated sequence with silhouettes in HPOT7, when this photorealism in service of the fnatastic was suspended for 90 seconds.
