The Amazing Spider-man is a counter example to both The Dark Knight Rises and to The Avengers.
If you're into Movies and Classic Stories TDKR wins hands down. The stoy is well done and if you've read the Tale of Two Cities then it is even more worth while.
Avengers is the only and best example of Marvel Continuity, and is the perfect example of a Comic Book Movie. Mostly pure action the story isn't overly complex, but if you've watched all the lead up their is a nice interwoven story for your mind to watch.
The Amazing Spider-man is the worst example of a comic book movie. Story is bad, incoherent, and if you pay attention to it it gets worse. They've stolen too much of Batman Year One and turned Spider-man into something that isn't Spider-man but rather more the child of Batman meets Green Lantern.
You really have Two options when making a Comic Book Movie. The Dark Knight Rises is an example of a well done well thought out story done in a classical sence. As a movie it can stand on its own if they "Batman" didn't even exit in it and was replaced with some nameless vigulante.
Then you have Avengers where it take all it can from the source material it is based on and shows just how Marvels Bull Pin worked in the 60's and 70's. It shows that you can make a true to the source material and still be a success. Yea it isn't as ceriberal as TDKR, but I don't want that all the time.
The Amazing Spider-man is a counter example to both The Dark Knight Rises and to The Avengers. The story is poorly constructed, and tries everything it can to run away from its roots.
