"As a member of the Academy, you have a singular obligation to watch every film in the categories for which you vote."(...)

"... In the filmically derived words of a bottomless pit of internet memes: You Had One Job. I understand many of you are busy. You have jobs or families or Netflix. I get it. But for the sake of respecting industry colleagues, the body that has granted you voting privileges, and passionate cinephiles who may-or-may-not-deliver-pizza everywhere: just watch the f—king movies. You get them. All of them. For free. Delivered to your home. If you somehow cannot find the time to watch them, please abstain from voting in that category."

The foreign language committee has a stronger track record of diversity then the larger academy {nm} Moviesnob Feb 26, 13:49

"As a member of the Academy, you have a singular obligation to watch every film in the categories for which you vote."(...) RamsFan2004 Feb 26, 11:47

honestly, i think they should watch 100 movies a year to be eligible to vote. They are the arbiters of merit in this film, they need Moviesnob Feb 26, 11:59

Well put "2 movies a week" ...even 3 per week doesn't seem like a lot to ask for the privilege to vote Bleachigo Feb 26, 12:15

These guys aren't mainlining movies because they're movie buffs... the academy members just enjoy being in the club. {nm} RamsFan2004 Feb 26, 12:24

some, but most think they are movie buffs. they just are lazy {nm} Moviesnob Feb 26, 12:52

How many would FYC films are there each year...just a rough guess? {nm} Bleachigo Feb 26, 12:58

Correction : how many FYC films are there each year? {nm} Bleachigo Feb 26, 12:59

In a sea of stuff that, though interesting and relevant, has gotten tiresome, here is a question that I am interested in. {nm} VicMackeyYTD Feb 26, 13:22

well not every film gets an oscar campaign, but about 300 each year are submitted Moviesnob Feb 26, 13:32

305 films were eligible for Oscar this year. {nm} Antibody Feb 26, 13:32

Are academy members able to vote in all categories..for instance can actors vote on technical categories? And vise versa? {nm} Bleachigo Feb 26, 15:39

They just like having their say, not necessarily finding out what the 'best picture' actually is {nm} RamsFan2004 Feb 26, 12:25

57 movies were nominated this years, x 2 is a good approximation. {nm} Antibody Feb 26, 13:31
