Because sometimes people don't want a deep, meaningful movie about a serious subject. They just want mindless bombs and explosions.
I haven't seen either Gods of Egypt or London Has Fallen, but I very much enjoyed Olympus Has Fallen. Did it speak to me on some spiritual level? Of course not. But there is something to be said for a movie just being flat out FUN from time to time. And Gerard Butler running around shooting bad guys and trying to save the President while quipping out ridiculous one liners was fun.
At the end of the day, sometimes people go to movies just because they want to shut off their minds for a couple hours and just enjoy some easily digestible plot with simple characters. Movies don't always have to be so serious.
I haven't seen Embrace of the Serpent, but as a guy who is currently trying to get through Farewell, My Concubine, watching subtitles for a couple hours can also be a difficult experience when trying to engage with a film. It's not for everyone, and you have to be in the right mood. It's part of the reason I've put off watching Son of Saul, which I'm told is also a transformative experience.
