I'm liking IDAY2 too

Posted by: sleepyleon on Jun 04, 15:50 in response to FOXX Fund's post Goodness, is every big summer movie being taken out back...

As a kid who grew up in the late 90s, there's definitely a nostalgia factor to the movie...and it was actually an alien invasion movie done right.  I'm going to assume that a majority of folks have watched the original at least once since it's always playing on TV.  On the other hand, I'm expecting SUICD to be a complete bomb...Marvel definitely had the upper hand on DC when I was growing up with the Saturday morning cartoons, collectible cards, comics, etc.  For the common moviegoer just hoping to catch a good movie, there isn't enough awareness or attachment with these characters for it be a big hit.  Although the same could be said about GOTGX and Ant Man, those were at least Marvel properties and ppl have watched enough Marvel films the past decade to count on them making a good movie.

Goodness, is every big summer movie being taken out back and shot?! FOXX Fund Jun 04, 15:09

This just means a film or two is going to totally exceed expectations and be a surprise hit {nm} numbersix_99 Jun 04, 15:13

I'm liking IDAY2 too sleepyleon Jun 04, 15:50

My concern with IDAY2 is what, if any, effect WSMIT not being back will have. shadowking Jun 04, 16:07

I can't see nay effect. That was 20 years ago. {nm} GruntNoNeck Jun 04, 16:09

This is precisely what I said to Snob last night. I'm just not excited for it because of Liam replacing Will. lobogotti Jun 04, 16:39

What gives me pause, is that early indicators like the initial trailer view counts and Superbowl Spot were soft notfabio Jun 04, 16:57

I actually watched Independence Day 2 around a month ago (some general thoughts inside) reelreptile Jun 04, 17:07

I think your last line might be the most important - many alien invasion movies but no dinosaur movies {nm} JDolphin Jun 04, 21:05

The SyFy channel has had a bunch I think but nothing I can remember. =P {nm} Baron_Darcon Jun 05, 07:51

interesting indeed. {nm} lobogotti Jun 04, 18:28

The top billing last time was the CG effects, which were not quite the great leap forward of "Jurassic Park," but were pretty amazing. second gary Jun 04, 17:06

Agree the special effects were the star back then. I shouted HOLY SH...! During the Baron_Darcon Jun 04, 22:27

"Earthquake" was a big deal in the 1970s, and I loved to watch "When Worlds Collide" when I was a kid. second gary Jun 05, 06:12

The bigger concern is the 20 year gap. That's been a bad gamble for too many recent sequels. {nm} leo21 Jun 04, 17:34

How so? Jurrasic World did great. {nm} Dorfman Jun 04, 19:03

Tron; Vacation; Dumb And Dumber; Zoolander; My Big Fat Greek Wedding; Barbershop; Terminator; Die Hard; Scream {nm} AFRAM The African American Fund Jun 05, 07:12

Tron Legacy was a big hit, only reason sequel was put on hold was Disney is spoiled for product right now. {nm} austpow Jun 05, 07:21

The original MBFGW was such an unusual phenomenon, too; its sequel was differently successful, I think, and it has a 3+ multiplier. {nm} second gary Jun 05, 09:58

DIE4 was the best performing Die Hard movie, and that was after a 12 year gap {nm} warcraft86 Jun 05, 10:59

6 yrs later, the 5th movie only made half as much {nm} JDolphin Jun 05, 11:21

Terminator was only a six year gap and had massive quality issues. Barbershop 3 was a successful little programmer {nm} Moviesnob Jun 05, 11:12

There's something in the air... {nm} MattW Jun 04, 16:12

I was out on ID4 when they didn't bring back Egg {nm} djgrimlok Jun 04, 20:52

Her? {mm} {nm} bennyg1985 Jun 05, 06:22

It was as ann as the nose on Plain's face they were never going to cast her {nm} RogerMore Jun 05, 09:31

I'm thinking there will be 2-3 late June/July big hits TwoMisfits Jun 05, 13:29

anecdotal, but haven't spoken to even one person who's hyped for IDAY2 CG63 Jun 09, 11:13
