I'm not so sure this will be the death knell of Hollywood

I mean, families still see movies - this year's box office proves it.  And families bring kids.  And movie theaters smartly continue to market very cheap summer fun for families who mght not be able to afford new releases to further get kids used to the fun of the movies.  So a new generation is continually being introduced.

What Hollywood needs to get back to is making sure they grab these kids as they turn 12-13 (and until they become parents at 30 or so) and make a movie every few weeks that will grab their interests - even if the movies are a continual money "suck".  Doesn't have to be something big box office or big named starred (although it can be), but it does have to be well done and in their interest zone.  Nostalgic sequels/reboots don't cut it...

..AND WILL CONTINUE TO DECLINE. A new generation has little tolerence for Hollywood crap!...simple as that, the number reflect this. {nm} Malachi Jul 26, 16:53

It's difficult to take seriously an article which suggests without nuance that MBFG2 did less than its predecessor. second gary Jul 26, 18:46

they are nice for hits during slumps, but chicken little articles are rarely based in reality. Moviesnob Jul 26, 19:03

The attempt to make everything a franchise is a big problem. And taking to long to produce the next installment kills viable ones. {nm} leo21 Jul 26, 18:58

You are so right...why does it take 3 goddamn years to make a 2 hour James Bond movie? Or 2 yrs to make another Deadpool? {nm} MrZero Jul 26, 20:07

That, good sir, depends on the level of craftsman you want put into each of those films. {nm} chosenone2oo5 Jul 26, 22:38

Except neither of these factors were a problem for NEMO2. There's no sweeping judgment to be made except don't screw up. second gary Jul 26, 20:24

Yeah. More spectacle from films, less boring commentary would be a good start. {nm} VictorY Jul 26, 20:58

The author suggests that Hollywood is generally in big trouble but yet states that "year-to-date, the receipts are up 2%". BlackMamba1893 Jul 26, 22:00

Every single year we have to read another one of these stupid sky is falling articles. Sigh. {nm} nilephelan Jul 26, 23:08
