I too wish to see a Zhang Yimou film w/ powerful, realistic American CGI effects. I wish they'd have still paid for it w/ Chinese leads too.
If not, and Chinese studios had made it--the effects would've/could've ended up as bad as "Monster Hunt," despite how fun that movie ended up being creatively and tonally.
If Chinese studios can step up their special effects, based off the ambition of "The Great Wall," then yes, that would be something even American audiences would be interested in spending their money on.
