It's only a drag from the stand point of the MCU being so incredibly less than average entertainment. But in America, it makes sense.

It feels right, in the country we've got, that something as lowest common denominator as the MCI is what's the most popular.

Disney will continue to marginalize both franchises with more and more and more content of less and less and less artistry. They've already gone a decent way down the road of making the Star Wars Universe something people don't care as much about anymore, they're well on the way of putting out as much product in just a few years as what Lucas put out in 35 years. And Marvel? Well, who cares what they do with that slop. And, much like the reactions I had after finally watching Wonder Woman, after recently watching Black Panther, all the talk of awards, well, that's one of those things where I don't know whether to laugh at the absurdity of it, or cry over what it means to film and film history. But I'm sure Disney will continue to put 3 or 4 Marvel movies out per year ad infinitum, more swill for the grinder.

Disney will inevitably turn the Star Wars franchise into something so average that the longtime fans will have had enough (20 years ago they thought that wasn't possible). The only thing left for them to do is keep churning out movies to where the domestic take ends up being like several of these mediocre Marvel Movies (say, the Boba Fett movie made 150 million, imagine that kind of thing) that brings the franchise to its knees, leaving all the old timers with even their old box office numbers reduced to insignificance.

Good times!

LOVE "Star Wars." But yes, its time is passing now... VictorY Mar 31, 21:43

Dude, that ship sailed over $1.9 billion ago. {nm} ndmaster Mar 31, 22:03

+1. Yeah I was wrong. SW isn't the top franchise anymore. {nm} VictorY Mar 31, 22:55

they've made 18 Marvel movies so far vs. 9 total SW movies ever. i hope they would have made more money with twice the attempts {nm} slipping jimmy Mar 31, 23:02

If you go by adjusted for inflation SW is 7.4B vs MCU 6.4B after Avengers MCU will be #1.. But it'll take 19 films. {nm} Baron_Darcon2017 Apr 01, 01:26

Yeah, my feeling is this next AVENG puts them over the top.. in terms of franchise dominance.. Thanks for the numbers. {nm} VictorY Apr 01, 02:13

for a month {nm} slipping jimmy Apr 01, 03:24

Those #s were alltime domestic. Solo will add to SW so actually it might take a few more MCU to overtake adjusted..but inevitalbe. {nm} Baron_Darcon2017 Apr 01, 04:23

Average adjusted MCU is 328M...... average for SW is 830M using 9 movies ...might take Avengers 4 to overtake adj.. then SW9 comes out {nm} Baron_Darcon2017 Apr 01, 04:30

Worldwide unadjusted MCU $14.785B vs SW $9.098B - avg MCU $778.2m vs SW $1,010.8m {nm} Lucas73 Apr 01, 12:30

You can't compare ww numbers with movies released before 1995... there is not enough data. {nm} Filmstardust Apr 01, 19:03

Domestic inflation adjusted James Bond $6B {nm} Lucas73 Apr 01, 12:44

Domestic adjusted DC Comics $7.074B, 30 movies, avg $235m, according to BoxOfficeMojo {nm} Lucas73 Apr 01, 12:49

Apparently Shaq was in a DC movie called Steel in 1997 that no one saw. {nm} Lucas73 Apr 01, 12:59

everyone who matters saw Steel {nm} slipping jimmy Apr 01, 13:12

So no one matters then. :P {nm} DTravel Apr 02, 10:05

What's with the pointless America-bashing? MCU is popular all over the world {nm} parthm_ Apr 01, 14:48
