IPOs only move when the stock is sold out
For HSX, this only includes longs. And, it only moves on shares traded once it is sold out. So, for a MST with a 5 million share IPO, once 5 million shares are bought LONG, it becomes available for price movement. Only trades from that point forward effect the stock price. 50 million shares could have been shorted before it was active and that has no effect on the stock price. Odd, but its how its done around here. And, there's the secret sauce in the mix, too.
