Here too in California from my understanding, wife does some computer work for a lab. Just because they are doing some testing

Posted by: albrown on Jul 17, 18:20 in response to Antibody's post They're already testing the vaccines with people in Brazil.

doesn't mean that they won't be pushing a beta version when it first gets delivered. It takes years to develop and test drugs and vacines to develop enough baseline statistics to tell that it will be x% safe for the average human without this or that qualification or existing condition.

I install beta versions and 1.0 versions on virtual machines that I can reboot and forget when things go bad poorly, very rarely does a 1.0 live up to it promises and that's just software.

An anti-virus is a lot more complex and requires a lot more testing than the code we run on our laptops and phones.

I want it to work, I am having some trouble resolving the disparities between what they typically claim is the process and what they say they are doing now. I'm distrustful when they start changing the policies and procedures for medical testing in light of the money being delivered in truckloads to these labs. I have even less trust when the places doing the development and testing are under intense political preasure.  Throw in the idea that the biggest of the pharmas have proven over and over again that they will invent test data, lie about and misinterpret results for profit. That kinda tells the strory.

take it with a mine of salt, but genuinely promising results for the Oxford vaccine candidate, into Phase 3 testing, Oct. delivery possible pickle rick! Jul 17, 11:23

Agreed. I see a vaccinne this Fall also. {nm} VictorY Jul 17, 11:49

even Phase 3 trials have only meant a 50/50 shot at approval, historically {nm} pickle rick! Jul 17, 12:10

Even if there's a vaccine that's available by October, it'll still take months to distribute it widely. {nm} notfabio Jul 17, 12:11

and you have to think there will need to be some kind of badge or proof-of-vaccination validation put in place across all industries pickle rick! Jul 17, 12:20

There's not going to be widespread global distribution of a vaccine until next summer. {nm} HurricaneKid Jul 17, 14:28

October delivery of what, couple tens of millions of doses to be shared globally? Not gonna be enough to go around until Spring '21. {nm} HurricaneKid Jul 17, 14:29

Pickle Rick, that tweet says AstraZeneca pledged 2B doses this year. Not true. They have secured capacity to produce 2B over next 12 months. HurricaneKid Jul 17, 14:38

There was such as lack of tests back in March, it's unfair to compare positive tests today to the number back then. Silverblue76 Jul 17, 13:54

That is wrong. Postivity rate is going up with more testing, not down. Hospitalization is also going, and soon death will follow. {nm} Antibody Jul 17, 14:33

Deaths already going up, have been for two weeks. {nm} HurricaneKid Jul 17, 14:39

This is just Texas but deaths yesterday were 174. Previous high was 129. 10,632 hospitalizations statewide (new high) Moviesnob Jul 17, 14:53

Deaths in Florida are also on the rise. Most disconcerting, positives for nursing home residents and employees on the rise. The last 6 weeks Catzan Jul 17, 16:05

Positivity rate is going up as people are testing who have COVID-19 and not the flu. Those who are exposed are now testing. Silverblue76 Jul 17, 16:03

Why are you stuck on March with anecdotes? California recorded its highest deaths in July. {nm} Antibody Jul 17, 16:32

Just a thought but who here wants to be injected with anti-virus 1.0? Especially when they are under intense political pressure albrown Jul 17, 16:21

FDA and pharma drug testing is nothing like software releases. {nm} Antibody Jul 17, 18:37

They should be stricter and more rigorous right? It is a very rare thing to see a flawless software product delivered in just a few months. {nm} albrown Jul 17, 18:53
