That contingent doesn't actually believe AMC in the long run can turn things around, they just have been sold on ever increasing price targets of $500, 1K, 100K, 500K, 1 million a share due to overleveraged hedge funds short on it having to cover during a market crash. Similar to Gamestop (but more of those supporters think that can be turned around).
AMC has made no significant management changes or presented any radical industry revolutionizing ideas (the same can be said of all the major theatre chains, so it's not just an AMC thing), the same people who ran it several billion in debt, are the ones still in control, the only significant change is Dalian Wanda getting out.
