"For those of you who don't know the story, Boeing ostensibly bought the smaller McDonnell Douglas but then executives from the smaller company ended up running the merged corporation & destroyed its reputation for superior engineering with a relentless focus on short term profit.

The McDonnell Douglas corporate culture is what gave us the 737 MAX, where they decided that instead of engineering a new plane, they could slap giant new fuel-saving engines on the 737 fuselage & keep the plane airworthy with minor structural tweaks & updated software."
