I don't get this either. TWLI2 demonstrated how front-loaded the franchise is history has shown that 2 sequels in less than a year results
in diminishing returns for the later installment most of the time.
On top of that, Independence Day will certainly deflate TWLI3's 3-day weekend, DVD sales have remained stagnant compared to the first film (so we shouldn't be seeing a jump in gross like we did with TWLI2), there's a lot more competition in the marketplace, and mainstream viewers may not return for this one like they may have out of sheer curiousity for the last film. (Remember, 74m Opening and 142m Weekend don't just happen with a fan base...it takes a LOT of casual interest to generate numbers that high).
Add in the fact that the market is in a very weak state so far this summer and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the 3-day weekend comes in the low 60s, if not high 50s. A *lot* of demand should be burned off in its first two days. Wednesday could potentially even represent 40-50% of its 5-day total.
So don't people think that TWLI3 will be frontloaded to Weds ala Harry Potter? Jun 22, 05:20
