I finally saw Zone of Interest. Among other things: PLEASE reward the sound design. It is simply incredible. Unforgettable in fact.

The sound in Oppenheimer is really great too. But come on.
This seems like a whole new level of artistic ambition getting fully realized here.
My God.
There's so much to take in with that picture. I know my first impressions relate to the many articles and reviews I'd read about feeling "cold and disconnected" from the movie. Well, this film hits you and makes you feel alot of different things. The film is all about people feeling cold and disconnected form what they're doing and what's going on around them. So yeah.
But this film is loaded up with clincher details that just put you overr. It's a stunning exercise in cinematic control. I just kept thinking: "insane"; all the way through the thing.
And the sound design. The first thing i thought of was that damn foghorn in The Lighthouse. But that's doing this film's sound design a disscervice. The sound is beyond clever; so intricately thought out and accomplished. Masterful work.
That's a film right there. Kudos to the Irvine Spectrum for hosting this in a LARGE room. There was some nice attendance there. Many people, more than usual, stayed until the credits finished and the lights came up.
Haunting. Horrible. Scary. Creepy as all get out. Wow.
Talk about the simple things just putting you over. Something as seemingly simple as putting a hand written note into a furnace. Unforgettable. And the picture is LOADED with this stuff. Smell the flowers. Wow.
Love is not the right word to describe my feelings about this one. Do I want to watch it again? Great question. I have no doubt I'll be thinking over this one for a long time, so that right there is the testament to its strengths.

Well, I'm guessing that many voters won't even WATCH Zone of Interest. Everyone's seen Oppenheimer. That's gonna be key. Still:

Are you saying voters vote without seeing all the films?

This film commands your complete attention. Don't wait for it on TV; see it somewhere with the very best sound, and listen to the film.

Mica Levi should have been nominated for score.

There's no doubt in my mind; definitely. The music is so striking here, contributing greatly to the overall effectiveness of the film.
