Swimming & Athletics finals are usually 6-8pm/7-10pm local time @ any Olympics
Would mostly translate to late night (morning sessions) & early morning (evening sessions) for LA & early morning+afternoon for NY. Not much overlap with major movie audience except on weekends.
Doubt they'd be showing too many of the team sports which get played through the day from 8am-8pm local except maybe a few finals. Or the Swimming/Athletics prelims which are 9am-1am local time. Wrestling's usually in continuation from 9am local through to repechage/SF/Final same day for one weight category. Not sure that makes for much audience at a cinema (imagine sitting for 6 hours, even at a stadium you can come/go with more ease than a cinema).
A summer Olympics is good to experience locally once in your life (esp if held in Eur/Oz/E Asia), otherwise watch some action at home if the time suits. Am not sure how great it'd be going to a hall to watch it. Makes even lesser financial sense if its taking screens away from an almost sure thing as a blockbuster ie Deadpool 3.
