Hard disagree. Fidelity in film adaptations needs to be more than just fidelity to story, but fidelity to theme which is more cinematic than
story fidelity. if Fennell just did a straight story adaptation, we would lose what makes her interesting as an artist and provides the opportunity for something aesthetically accomplished. Like you said, its probably not for you but for me, I think what makes movies meaningful is the collusion of a deeply emotional story with beautiful sound and visuals. The more poignant the emotion and story, the more dynamic the sound and images are, the better! I cant wait to see it (Monday night!)

I think William Wyler's version is the only one I really like although I've only seen Andrea Arnold's and Bunuel's versions Jan 31, 20:09
