Exactly. You play the cards you are dealt. Obesity is an expensive choice many have made -more-

Posted by: arf on Jul 25, 20:43 in response to RogerMore's post I think that's an unsympathetic view of the other side....

Due to people being given free food on essentially a credit card, obese people 'get worse'.  Doctors accepting insurance aren't allowed to tell them they are "fat".   They need to approach that topic gently, and even then risk getting fired for stating something we've known for thousands of years.   The sheer number of calories (8-20k) the morbidly obese consume, is NOT purchased by that person.   That person is unable to work or sometimes, get out of bed.   Yet, they expect doctors to be forced by the goverment to treat all of the secondary and tertiary issues commonlly known with obesity.    In the Free Man world, a person would be working or growing food to even get to 'obesity'.     The entire .gov food assitance program, with no limits on healthy vs. fattening foods* only enables this behavior.   The Morbidlly Obese are going to die soon.   How much do you want to force other people to pay doctors to keep them alive long enough to.. get a bit more fat and die of heart attack?

There needs to be Nutrition and Fitness education.   They've finally admitted the Food Pyramid was incorrect.  It's all a matter of calories, no matter which diet is chosen.  Burn more calories than you eat, and you'll be fine.  You'll feel better if you eat more protein and less Corn Syrup, but your weight won't get out of control.

The new big thing with doctors, which I personally LOVE is "Private Doctor", they don't have administrative overhead except for that needed for health record keeping.   The do NOT accept any insurance company payments.   The net result is a broken arm costs $350 to set and cast, which you pay at time of visit.   Compared to the over $3,000 an emergency room would charge for the exact same treatment.   The reason for that is the hospital has to pay the employees and products used the same price.   They don't get a break.  However, if you go in with Medicaid/Medicare, they are only repaid $0.10/dollar of service and equipment used.   Insurance companies bargain all the way up to paying 25% sometimes.    The new "Private Doctor" is coming back in vogue.   You may get healthcare, but it will be from an Indian who speaks broken english and doesn't do house calls, but that's what happens when you force a for profit organization to give away services.

The rest, drug overdoses, accidents, gang fight injuries, if they can't pay it, well, they die.    People would stop populating like rabbits if they didn't get extra taxpayer(.gov) money for each kid they squeeze out.  If they have problems and the parent can't afford it, they die if there's not room in the foster parent system.  Charities may help, and were the standard way to pay an unexpected medical bill in the past.  There's absolutely no reason my taxes should pay for somebody elses intelllectually questionable child, when I realize I cannot afford to bring a Good Child up from Cradle to 18 years of age without hardship.

Policts and Religion should not be discussed in polite company. Good words of wisdom. -more- arf Jul 25, 17:17

Sorry bout that typo. Expsoure enhancement for politics. {nm} arf Jul 25, 17:17

Personally I'm OK with hearing people who have different experiences and opinions than my own, it helps me be better informed and understand RogerMore Jul 25, 17:57

It does help see all sides. The defining difference between most people is a simple one -more- arf Jul 25, 18:04

I think that's an unsympathetic view of the other side. Of course personal choice is important, but there are plenty of things people don't RogerMore Jul 25, 20:11

Like I said, unsympathetic. {nm} RogerMore Jul 25, 21:15

with respect for you, your namesake, and the qualities of sympathy and compassion... Pepe_Nolan Jul 25, 23:12

Economics MUST be without sympathy. Otherwise a nation will bankrupt itself while the people vote more money to themselves. {nm} arf Jul 26, 19:23

I'm saying "unsympathetic" because you go right to the worst case scenario, and don't stop to think about real people. RogerMore Jul 27, 05:21

An "unsympathetic" label could come across as condescending or dismissive. {nm} TJNFL1 Jul 26, 21:41

RogerMore, I could kiss you. I love you for your reasonable arguments. {nm} Paul2k Jul 26, 07:46
