I'm saying "unsympathetic" because you go right to the worst case scenario, and don't stop to think about real people.

When I said obese people, I was thinking of people I see every day, who are carrying an extra 50-100 lbs. They have jobs, they're educated people, they do their own shopping and don't rely on welfare, they also have a bigger long term risk of heart disease, cancer, etc that will lead to shorter lives and expensive medical care down the road. This is the situation many (if not most) obese people are in.

When you read obese people, you thought of someone with a credit card for free food, who is too overweight to have a job, go shopping or do much of anything for themselves, who are going to die soon so taxpayer money shouldn't be wasted on them. It's something you'd see more on reality TV than in reality. I dont know your life but I doubt you've ever had a real conversation with someone like this. You're inventing a caricature, rather than thinking about ordinary people living their lives. It's not sympathetic.
