Shannon vs Nadia

Sideways time was a "place they all created so they could find each other"

Sayid created his own situation in sideways time.

I forget the quote in the church but the time they spent on the island was the most important time of their lives.

In sideways time, Sayid had Nadia in his life but had her married to his brother (out of his reach).

The time spent on the island redeemed Sayid, he went from a torturer to a compassionate person because of Shannon and that was the most important event in his life.

When he is brought to that ally by Hurley and sees the fight, Sayid's compassion gets stirred up and causes him to act. It isnt that Shannon was so much of Sayid's life, but that Sayid was so much of Shannon's life and that is why she remembers first and then Sayid recognizes the changed version of Shannon as the person who changed him.
