In the 1950s, Staten Island blue collar working stiff Buddy Rispoli has a simple dream. He wants to be a singer. So he concocts a scheme to buy a two family house and convert the downstairs unit into a bar where he can display his heretofore frustrated talents.
Unfortunately for Buddy the upstairs unit is currently occupied by an alcoholic husband and his abused pregnant wife. The Irish immigrant girl goes into labor and Buddy and his friends have to confront the tension between compassion and their own personal interests.
Director-writer Raymond DeFelitta depicts the emotional journey that Buddy travels, from the self-absorbed man with his own hopes and dreams to a selfless hero responsible for the welfare of others.
Michael Rispoli and Kelly Mcdonald star in this Sundance Film Festival feature.
