The Nick Hornby novel About a Boy will be adapted by the directing duo of Chris and Paul Weitz (American Pie). The story is about a hip, thirty-something man who's living the good, single life in London. But he begins to feel left out when all his friends take up the responsiblities of family lives. So he decides to join a single parent group where he meets a precocious child and his mother.
Hugh Grant is attached to star in the film. Nick Hornby also wrote High Fidelity, which was turned into a film starring John Cusack. Universal picked up the film when New Line placed it in turnaround.
