Based on the autobiographical novel by Mary Costello, Titanic Town follows a family who moves to a Catholic area of Belfast in 1972. The story is set in the same town that was responsible for building the RMS Titanic. The film focuses on the tension between the Irish ship builders and British residents that existed at the time. Upon arrival, the family encounters IRA/British gunfights and the large police force to deal with the unrest. The family's mother, Bernie McPhelimy (Julie Walters), becomes involved with a women's peace organization. Nuala O'Neill, Ciaran Hinds and Ciaran McMenamin star in the historical drama directed by Roger Michell (Persuasion, Notting Hill). Anne Delvin (Vigo, Wuthering Heights) worked on the book's adaptation.
