In the 1930's, two amazing boxers, the United States' Joe Louis and Germany's Max Schmeling, became metaphors for the two countries. The fights between the men were so influential on their nations, they also became political battles. Often protrayed as a symbol of Nazi Aryan supremacy, Schmeling actually helped Jews during the War.
Spike Lee has called upon famous writer Budd Schulberg to take on the script and boxing historian/expert Bert Randolph Sugar to help supervise the film's development.
