Fox Searchlight has dropped the official trailer for the black comedy Downhill [DWNHL], a remake of the 2014 Swedish film Force Majeure. Will Ferrell [WFERR] and Julia Louis-Dreyfus [JLOUI] star as a couple on a family ski vacation in the Alps. During a near avalanche, he chose to run rather than protect his family, which puts a strain into their marrage.
Downhill arrives on February 14th.
MGM has bowed the teaser trailer for the musical biopic Respect [RESPC] starring Jennifer Hudson [JHUDS] as Aretha Franklin. The film charts her rise frrom her father’s church choir to international superstardom. Respect hits theaters next year on August 14th October 9th.
The holiday box office season is about to cheer up with the arrival of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker [STAR9]. Director J.J. Abrams returns to conclude the sequel trilogy he started with The Force Awakens, which opened to $248 million in 2015. The Rian Johnson directed sequel The Last Jedi opened to $220 million in 2017, but divided the fanbase. Warner Bros. has revealed the official trailer for the action thriller Tenet [TENET] written and directed by Christopher Nolan [CNOLA]. After exploring the dream state in Inception, Tenet will tackle the afterlife. John David Washington [JDWAS] leads the all-star cast. Tenet drops on July 17th.
Fox has unveiled the official trailer for the thriller The Woman in the Window [WIWDW] directed by Joe Wright [JOWRI]. Amy Adams [AMADA] stars as an agoraphobic psychologist who befriends a neighbor from across the street. The woman then seemingly disappears due to foul play, but no one believes her. The Woman in the Window hits theaters on May 20th.
Universal has released another trailer for the World War I epic 1917 directed by Sam Mendes [SMEND]. George MacKay and Dean-Charles Chapman stara as two young British soldiers who must race against time and cross enemy territory to deliver a message that will stop an attack that will cost the lives of hundreds of soldiers. Unspooled in one continuous take, 1917 opens in select theaters on Christmas Day before expanding wide on January 10th.
Paramount has uploaded the teaser trailer for the thriller sequel A Quiet Place Part II [AQPL2], which debuted in theaters this past weekend. Emily Blunt [EBLUN] returns to lead her surviving family from A Quiet Place as they venture into the outside world in silence in order to survive alien creatures that hunt by sound. Directed once again by John Krasinski [JKRAS], A Quiet Place Part II opens on March 20th.
Pixar has cut another trailer for the animated fantasy Onward [ONWRD]. Chris Pratt and Tom Holland voice teenage elf brothers on a magical quest to bring back their father who had disappeared years ago. Onward disembarks in theaters on March 6th.
A24 has unleashed the official trailer for the psychological horror Saint Maud [SMAUD]. Morfydd Clark stars as a newly devout nurse who becomes obsessed with saving the soul of her dying patient, played by Jennifer Ehle. Written and directed by Rose Glass, Saint Maud opens in limited release on March 27th before expanding wide the following week.
Paramount has laiunched the full-length trailer for the action sequel Top Gun: Maverick [TOPG2]. Tom Cruise [TCRUI] returns to his signature role after 34 years to teach his old tricks to a crop of young new pilots that includes the son of his former co-pilot "Goose", played by Miles Teller [MTELL].
