And thank you for the explaination, my background is in film also...I have a question about your theatrical release theatre count of It Follows distribution company Radius - this year the max theatres it's distributed to is 50 (It Follows is slated for 51 this upcoming week & the 4 NYC/LA locations it had the previous) - last year it released SnowPiercer with the max theatre count being 356? Not 3000+? http://www.boxofficemojo.com/studio/chart/?view=company&view2=&yr=2014&timeframe=yty&sort=&order=&studio=radiustwc.htm and I've done my research on Radius, an arm of TWC, which seemingly focuses on VOD primarily alongside limited release & indie titles (hence the $550k acquisition from the film festivals - Cannes I believe for It Follows)? You mean TWC will step in to distribute & use their connecitons with the theatre venues to go wide? VOD could be very lucrative - just look at the interviews (Which had a few moments here & there but it worked on the controversial aspect & talent attached) - sales of $31M via VOD -http://deadline.com/2015/01/sony-the-interview-31m-vod-sales-1201342414/ - that's definitely nothing to look down on, very impressive numbers.
It Follows FB likes is just shy of 43k and the twitter handle has under 2000 followers... Not that much social engagment going on? Yes it has phenomenal critics approval ratings & reciews though, this is noted. You mentioned that at select theatres during the debut they had: Q&A and other special events to boost marketing and "provide" people with greater incentive to come out during opening night - isn't it possible that this film expands to the 51 theatres this weekend and the dsitrbution company still upholds its contracts with the VOD platforms on the scheduled March 27th VOD release? They know it can still be very successful on VOD.
I don't think people should dismiss the importance of Social Media to get a gauge of markets - Variety uses (May be a paid advertisement like AntiBody mentioned, I agree with this but it doesn't chancge the services merits+valuable information) MoviePilot which is a social Media Algorithm that predicts BO gross & attendance based on actual social media engagement for the film prior to release. I'm just pointing out maybe the Social Media #'s are telling us something about It Follows+Maybe they stick to the VOD release... ALL THE BEST with your film sincerely, I've dealt with film festivals & congratulations that you've made it to this phase!
