Playing & Trading Strategy

the answer is in my 2nd post, but I'l be more clear in the inner message.

VOD deals & contracts are not done on titles but with distributors. Distributors sell titles in after they have direct contracts.

It Follows was slated to enter the VOD window 2 weeks after the theatrical release. This strategy worked to great results with Snowpierceer, which went from a title that was going to edited significantly to one of some folks favorite movie of the year. The title was a financial success in both theaters and on VOD (and because of that, on other revenue streams as well like DVD and Pay TV).

It Follows had a very successful weekend at the Arclight in Hollywood this weekend (mostly due to talent like Edgar Wright showing up and moderating Q&As). Having the successful weekend it did opened up the possibility that there was more than $10 mil box office. It now has more value to everyone, including VOD, to get the movie into a lot of theaters that either wont play the movie cause its on VOD (cause they are stuck in old business models) or ones you have to pay the theater to play the movie (this is called four walling).

I dont know how wide they are going to go, but Radius is part of the weinstein company and they release films in 3000+ theaters so a very wide release is certainly possible. And the more box office it does, the better it is for everyone, including VOD.

They underestimate the demand of this title. Honestly, everyone did. Radius bought this title for only $550k.

Spring is a movie my company is releasing this weekend in theaters and on VOD. We've baeen asked to move out of theaters on the 27th in expansion markets so they can give the bigger houses to It Follows, which clearly has higher demand. We're going to move a few markets to the 20th to get the bigger houses then.

Can't confirm anything but our movie spring is being asked to move around cause it follows it changing its release pattern Moviesnob Mar 16, 15:40

I think it's safe to assume it's not going to vod on the 27th {nm} Moviesnob Mar 16, 15:42

Sounds like only top 10 dmas now this weekend {nm} Moviesnob Mar 16, 15:46

I'm gonna talk it out with producers tonight but we might blow our wad on the 20th now. That's what the theaters want at least {nm} Moviesnob Mar 16, 16:02

Question for you about Kill Me Three Times & VOD release schedule... aleksthegreat Mar 17, 09:27

higher price points on VOD, better placement on VOD. The distributor is focused on the VOD revenue stream and this maximizes it {nm} Moviesnob Mar 17, 09:31

what happens if Radius sticks to the march 27th VOD release plan? What happens then? They may have VOD deals in place...contracts perhaps? {nm} aleksthegreat Mar 16, 18:56

Not if they move It Follows to a wide release schedule. {nm} Chateau_du_Mal_Voisin Mar 16, 20:26
