I can't really argue against much of your theory - I don't have any facts to back up either side.
But in terms of the massive swings, especially on IPOs, there's a clear trend with some of these that get huge volumes trading. They seem to go on wild swings one way or the other, and then back and forth, for days (or even weeks). Is it market manipulation causing it? Maybe. But while I'm not part of any covert group of manipulators, I've benefited from it by closely watching a few stocks that are part of the swings, and jump on and off at the right time to maximize my gains. If a whole bunch of people are doing the same, then the swings become even more exagerated, and everyone playing those trends make even more money.
Lately I noticed some fairly big spikes with TFRM7, JUNGC, and since its IPO, XXX4. SPACS went through it too.
So ya, maybe there is some scheme at play - I don't know. All I know is if you time it right, you can play it to your advantage if you can catch the wave when "THEY" start the move.
