here is something to help you...
Having a market average would be nearly impossible to make at HSX. Stocks are being added daily and deleted weekly. Moviestocks move thru a cycle and change price as they go thru the cycle. Stocks also jump prices... index would drastically change after an adjust and index would flatline during price halts...
this idea has been brought up many times. but no fear... I have a solution for you! I will share with you my solution:
Player Watchlist...
I use my Player Watchlist as a market average. I look at the weekly top 100 players list (posted by Kaigee on Wednesdays) and pick a handfull of players that are consistent in their ranking on the list.
Then I can look at these players and see that if they are having a good day and I am not... then something is wrong with my port.
If these players are not having a good day but I am... then I know my port is doing really good (for that day).
Here is a sampling of the players I use:
RazorHawk (thats me!) is always in the top 20
grammar is always in the top 20
grory is the top trader in the game and always in top 5
karspov is a top 10 player
mrbinns, RogerMore, OlegMax, edzep, secondgary are consistantly in the top 20
I also include on my watchlist players who make similar (slightly less or slightly more) than I do on a daily basis. Then I can compare how I am doing daily compared to them.
You would have to find your own comparables, but mine are Secretstalker, Kaigee, Broiler, Catzan (when he is playing full time)
I also include a few up and comers, people who are ranked below me and have a sizeable difference in port size from me (so I can see what "the weather is like" down there... I use:
lhayes37, lobogotti, islander, eyescovered, soopersayian,
Then I also have the top 100 LTD in my player watchlist so I can use that as a seperate index sample.
Generally I look at the top 100 and see how they are doing (as I scroll down to where I am on my list). After I see how the top 100 are doing in general, then I look at my comparables and then I take a glance at the up and comers...
Todays Report For RazorHawk:
Top 100 are 17/100 in red for week (average red is 2-3%) = market is doing good this week = I should be green!
Comparables = looks like 1mill is the average (2mill high and 500k low) = I should be around 1mill
Up and comers = all are in green for week = 400k average for day = market is good (I should be in green!)
RH Port Check... Up around 2mill...Yay! I am doing a little better than the average player right now.
