What's the cost difference between a digital vs. a non-digital film print? {nm} HarryWarden Sep 11, 09:06

I believe one film print can cost up to $2000, digital is a small fraction of that {nm} lapuckfan Sep 11, 09:37

about 400 for a digital drive about 4000 for a print its about 35 bucks for a single film trailer notfabio Sep 11, 09:37

theres a also a digital fee involved to pay for the digital conversion {nm} Moviesnob Sep 11, 09:52

Digital is still far cheaper than traditional, right? {nm} HarryWarden Sep 11, 09:53

its not for us {nm} Moviesnob Sep 11, 10:10

the savings really come in with multiple print bookings since one drive can generally be used for 99% of screens in a megaplex {nm} notfabio Sep 11, 10:40

How long do you think it'll be before every first run theatre in the US go all digital? Anyone know the % that are all digital currently? {nm} HarryWarden Sep 11, 10:44

It's just over 50 now. 100 will obly be when studioa stop printing, but prints are already scarce for lower-grossing venues in certain cases {nm} dsbman Sep 11, 15:15

Wasn't there a story about there being a move towards all digital internationally? If so, it should happen sooner rather than later here too {nm} HarryWarden Sep 11, 15:37

There is a move everywhere. It will happen domestically long before internationally. Third-world sites are the only ones buying 35mm dsbman Sep 11, 16:00

Does that also apply when the movie is shot in digital? Or only if the original is on film? {nm} medusa Sep 11, 13:44
