Joyful Noise--can it surprise? For what it is worth
When I saw Joyful Noise back in October at Showeast I thought it was weak, as did my wife and now the deal for the film from WB also shows their lack of faith in it. Most exhibs have a lack of faith.
Having said that, a big part of our country likes this music, the feel good story (like a Courageous) but with stars. I do not beleive it will be big, however see it better than a $10M OW. Martin Luther King weekend historically is pretty good playtime.
ALl in all we have had a decent Christmas season (lots of films working), had a surprise last week and maybe the tides are turning a little. Maybe some films will do better than expected. With the advent of good xmas film hanging around, Beauty and Contraband battling for #1, I see Joyful long as well.
Negative is lots of good football on, the Golden Globes are on...so we have some competition for the entertainment dollar.
