Reshorting will be a thing of the past. You'll have to cover when a stock moves up, wait to reshort when you

Posted by: goodvibe61 on Sep 22, 16:09 in response to grammar's post All small ports benefit by reshorting and freeing up cash...

think the time is right. But reshorting during commish eats into your gains.

The interesting thing will be to see how often stocks that have been consistantly moving downward turn around; usually this happens during COMM FREE. I'd expect that players with small to medium sized ports will be in more of a bind.

Once you have more than 1.4 billion or so, and you can hold every movie stock with max shares and still have cash, you're not too cash poor. And once you get past 2 billion you'll just forget about reshorting; you'll have cash and why waste the profit?

Perhaps players won't play the players as much any more, and will stay long or short on a stock more than they used to? I know for myself I'd play certain stocks a certain way with comm free in mind.

As an example: if i'm holding a stock that costs at least 90.00 or more short, I woudn't flip it long once Wednesday rolls around, because i know that more likely than not I'd lose the profit i make wednesday-sat a.m. by sometime between 10am-10:10 am pacific time saturday, because you simply cannot flip all the stocks with a price greater than 90 in that short a time period. You're gonna take you lumps from 10 to 10:15, you try to limit it, but still you're gonna pay. so if i'm holding, say a BIG priced movie stock a certain way at a certain time of the week, i'm more or less likely to flip toward the trend, depending on which way that trend is going.

No longer, with comm free out of there.

So things will definitely change. The bottom line, it's a blessing, i won't feel the obligation to spend time on my weekend worrying about it anymore.

Cool.

HSX Announces the End of the Commission-Free Period The HSX Team Sep 22, 11:45

Is this real? {nm} CSBD Sep 22, 11:53

its about damn time! ndmaster Sep 22, 12:31

yes (it's on the Announcements Board as well) {nm} ty97 Sep 22, 11:58

I'll go ahead and assume that was a joke. Very comical suggestion. {nm} Perfection Sep 22, 12:32

yay! {nm} CSBD Sep 22, 11:58

Why? Because you assume that it would ruin the game? How? ndmaster Sep 22, 12:48

Rapid price fluctuations don't equate to accuracy. Perfection Sep 22, 12:56

I wish the no commission free period was a joke, pretty sure that's going to happen. So don't yay too soon. {nm} Perfection Sep 22, 12:58

yes, we would have lots of volatility, but it would quickly calm down ndmaster Sep 22, 13:08

Not when investing in a penny stock which is not widely held. Perfection Sep 22, 18:31

Then there could also be the reset traders who could severely take avantage of IPO's. There are too many problems with the theory to work. Perfection Sep 22, 18:35

yeesh, these new boards baffle me. This was supposed to be a response to CSBD's question. {nm} ty97 Sep 22, 12:59

and *this* was supposed to be a reply to myself (I give up) {nm} ty97 Sep 22, 13:00

Fail. {nm} horlicks Sep 22, 13:06

complete and utter. {nm} ty97 Sep 22, 13:10

After the 10th response, the thread starts screwing up. It's on the list to fix... grory Sep 22, 13:09

and the 'yay' was a response to your answer and your answer only. {nm} CSBD Sep 22, 14:00

Yeah, there you go. Let's get rid of share limitations, too. grory Sep 22, 12:33

I doubt they could just lift the cap altogether, but I'd like to see an increase from 50k stocks {nm} remrej Sep 22, 13:00

can i have a few billion of that? since you have so much to spare! :) {nm} eyescovered Sep 22, 14:49

Complete agree with grory.......enough people have been playing this game long enough and build enough sufficent excess cash. Increase..... Broiler Sep 22, 19:23

how about just the saturday IPO still be purchased commission free? {nm} adrenalin112 Sep 22, 12:37

cool...can we move all blockbuster IPOs to Saturdays then?...they just go well together for some reason {nm} tealfan Sep 22, 12:50

YAY!!! Best news ever {nm} Wolfythunder Sep 22, 13:18

Funny thing is that I will not miss the bleeding port at 1PM on Saturday, but I would like to have a comm free reshort button.... StarBondFund Sep 22, 13:19

All small ports benefit by reshorting and freeing up cash even if they have to pay commission. It's sad that they can't do this at no cost grammar Sep 22, 14:45

Reshorting won't be a typical weekly play to make but for a small port, if the profit sitting there is big enough and a trade opportunity to grammar Sep 22, 17:21

perfect for my plan to ease up off HSX and do other things with my life {nm} john Sep 22, 16:05

Well that kicks it for me...at least I made it to #10 before I quit... {nm} Baddaddy Sep 22, 11:57

Meh, I'm fine with this. Jelly Sep 22, 16:52

Per the recent discussion on Feedback, I was hoping for a more moderate approach to "ending" commish free. Like, perhaps the first 50 edzep Sep 22, 12:04

Seriously, if you're at #10 on LTD, you can afford to pay commission, ya cheapskate. {nm} secretstalker Sep 22, 12:10

I only play with the numbers...Don't know squat about movies...Been to 2 movies in the last 28 years {nm} Baddaddy Sep 22, 12:20

Now that you're no longer playing, you'll have more free time. Go out and see a movie!!! FAME opens on Friday! :) {nm} secretstalker Sep 22, 14:48

I agree. Commission free was a fun time for some of us to play. grory Sep 22, 12:28

wait, did grory did quit? {nm} Moviesnob Sep 22, 12:42

just quit? {nm} Moviesnob Sep 22, 12:42

yes, she did {nm} RazorHawk Sep 22, 12:56

congrats on the top 10! {nm} gordon06 Sep 22, 15:29

Never understood why my portfolio always lost so much on the weekend initially. Good change, balances it out for the non-obsessed. {nm} MiyazakiFan Sep 22, 18:59

Word, enough with the Saturday ridiculousness {nm} journey Sep 22, 19:35

is this a joke ? andrewhazel Sep 22, 12:00

Effective immediately? {nm} horlicks Sep 22, 12:05

Probably effective this coming Saturday {nm} secretstalker Sep 22, 12:10

Figures. The week I com back after a couple years away comms free gets canned. My port is soooo red :) {nm} horlicks Sep 22, 12:19

its all a plot to destroy hsx and make us play Cantor Exchange........ {nm} andrewhazel Sep 22, 12:09

or maybe its to make sure the market functions as it should so HSX has the best data available to sell so it will be around forever {nm} Moviesnob Sep 22, 12:19

i think i agree with this. but what happens when all the 'fun' is gone, and all there is left is 'function' ? {nm} islander Sep 22, 12:23

was paying 1% THAT big of a deal? {nm} ndmaster Sep 22, 12:32

to me, its not that so much, but hsx keeps taking away (no commish free, lesser odds on cold cash, reset at 3am, etc.) and other than a few islander Sep 22, 12:42

This is exactly it for me. grory Sep 22, 12:50

that's interesting, becasuse, to me, those things dont matter much ndmaster Sep 22, 12:56

They've adjusted to the way people have played commission free and reset in the past, so yeah, my impression since the new version is... grory Sep 22, 13:05

When people take a position, ie, long or short a stock, thats all the info HSX needs for its purposes so anything else is just a strain on Shrike Sep 22, 13:31

I can't disagree... grory Sep 22, 13:36

curious, whats left that keeps you playing? about all thats left is picking the openers, and even that has gotten boring because hsx gotten islander Sep 22, 13:13

i like the new version ndmaster Sep 22, 13:24

Same here... i don't play/trade as much as I used to, but I don't really have to. {nm} secretstalker Sep 22, 15:30

I'll pretend this is addressed to me, because I can't tell with this lovely system they have now... grory Sep 22, 13:27

No, it's not even for an under 2-billion port like mine... but it is if you want to daytrade up/down incessantly. {nm} secretstalker Sep 22, 14:08

Just great. If "Free Trades" has the same odds as "Classic Cash", I'll never win.... eyescovered Sep 22, 12:09

it effects the big ports just as much as you, its 1% of trades! {nm} ndmaster Sep 22, 12:33

true. very true. {nm} eyescovered Sep 22, 13:52

I guess it will be rather dead around here on the weekends. {nm} grammar Sep 22, 12:20

watch, probably they'll move every ipo to saturday! {nm} islander Sep 22, 12:34

Shush now .. don't go putting that idea into their heads. {nm} grammar Sep 22, 12:42

Nope, I'll still be around :) {nm} secretstalker Sep 22, 14:48

Maybe they want that, dead on the weekend. I know it will certainly change the way i play; the weekend was maybe the busiest.. goodvibe61 Sep 22, 15:57

Agreed. My involvement is significantly down since v4 was released. The portfolio layout is blows as it is difficult to digest large ports Broiler Sep 22, 19:33

Since I still have dial-up, can I still have a Commission-Free Period? {nm} jlaking Sep 22, 12:29

Okay ... this is the best line in the group!!! LOL {nm} gordon06 Sep 22, 12:49

Er .. is it high-speed dial up or low speed? High speed, then no . slow speed . we'll think on it. :) {nm} grammar Sep 22, 13:06

The highest connection speed I ever got on dial-up was 28.8 Kbps {nm} jlaking Sep 22, 13:56

I didn't even know this existed.... {nm} DJ_NeX Sep 22, 12:30

what's commish-free?...no Jim Gordon?...no David Stern?...no Gary Bettman? {nm} tealfan Sep 22, 16:58
