The high-water mark of my geekdom. On grading.
When the first three "Star Wars" films were released on home video / DVD, I watched them with friends who maintained that "Return of the Jedi" was just as good as "Star Wars" or "The Empire Strikes Back." We agreed to track through the films, inventorying plusses (good shots, good lines, good line-readings, good plot points, good elements of the imagined world, good costumes, good musical cues...) and minuses (poor shots, bad lines, lame line-readings... etc.). "Star Wars" and "The Empire Strikes Back" had similar scores, around 500 pluses and 200 minuses. "Return of the Jedi" was upside-down, with around 200+ and 500-.

I tend to think of B as the starting point. Any film which rises to an A would have some feature I'd like to have the chance to notice or mention to a friend in conversation. A B film probably doesn't. A C film might have something lame to mention in conversation; a D is a scorn target of opportunity. An F is a walk-out.
