Eastbound and Down Season 1: A++, and I don't remember laughing as loud or as often at just about anything. Ever.
What a crazy show. It's just completely ridiculous to a certain extent, but then the tone of the episodes have a tendancy to change. It amazed me how many of the episodes ended in a more contemplative mood than what preceded it.
The music is exemplary in this. The choices in songs plays an exquisite role in setting the tone or feeling of what's going on. The casting is spot on. The performances and just flat out fantastic. I must say; watching Will Ferrell in this, in which he is just spectacular, makes me wince a little more about some of his recent film roles. If he was this good all the time, if the material was always at this kind of level, the guy just kills it. He is superb in this.
I don't know if this show was eligible for any Emmy's, as it just played earlier this year, and there were only six episodes. Nevertheless, I can't imagine anythingn funnier being screened on American television right now.
If you've seen this show, take 15 minutes, and go back and watch the final sequence of each of the episodes. You'll swear after watching those six scenes, that the show could actually be a drama, and not what it actually is, which is one of the funniest shows ever.
