So Who Saw What Last Week? (me - Duplicity: B+, The Mummy 3: TotDE: C-)
Duplicity: Surprised this flopped and was getting such negative reviews. Its a near brilliant movie, just comes up a little short. Some nice dialogue and Giamatti was highly entertaining. Probably tried a little hard with all the flashbacks and con intricacies, and Julia wasnt quite as charming as youd like, but still a really nice film, certainly better than the last 2 Ocean's films.
The Mummy Tomb of the Dragon Emporer: Not as horrible as I'd expected; (barely) passable dumb fun. There's a nice battle scene up in the snowtops of the Himalayas with a funny twist I liked. The problems are obvious: Rob Cohen doesnt film the action very well; too many quick edits, too much soundstagey and cgi feel. The first 2 at least had that Lawrence of Arabia style cinematography, this one has a dingy Van Helsing look. The son character was just wrong with only a 13 year difference between him and Fraser, Jet Li does nothing in this film, and replacing R Weisz with Mario Bello is like going from a Merceds to a Pinto.
BSG: Caprica: D-. What a dull, annoying disappointment. From Eric Stoltz, whom I've never much cared for, and the daughter who seems to be channeling Zooey Deschanel's bugeyed, constipated performance in The Happening, to the fact that a prequel to BSG was probably not needed, this made me actively dislike it. I will be passing on the series.
Stargate: Universe: C+. Never watched the other SG series, but this premiere is mostly standalone. I like the premise, a few survivors stuck on an old ship that travels to planets in another galaxy, but I am not sure the cast is strong enough for me to want to stick with the series, most of the actors are simply uninteresting and forgettable, and the big name, Robert Carlyle, doesnt give his interesting character any of the intensity he is known for.
Curb Your Enthusiasm: Seinfeld reunion A. Never saw this show either, but switched to directv just for the free hbo so i could watch this episode. Seinfeld my fave show of all time, nice to see the cast back, and I may start watching this show regularly.
Bears 48, Lions 24: A+. I am getting the feeling we are heading for Bears v Broncos in the Super Bowl :)
