If that # is accurate then that tells me...

That Disney's internal tracking shows that it will not beat JURA4's OW record, because if they thought it was close they would do everything in their power to get that record. They are now going to try and set it up to have holiday legs instead by creating limited availability of showtimes and creating buzz. If true then those of us discounting the December opening limiting factor were terribly wrong and that there is indeed a reason no film has ever opened higher than 86M. But again, that depressing scenario is only if 3900 is the real number.

I still don't think that 3900 wlll be the number though.

98 movies have opened in more thatn 3900 screens, including classics such as:

-Get Smart, Lone Ranger, Rio 2, Rango, Bee Movie, GIJOE, Over the Hedge, and all three Madagascar films.

Ā

Do we really want to live in a world where the Lone Ranger gets more screens than TFA?

If I am wrong tho, the OW derivatives are in for a pounding and those of us with 225+predictions are going to look really, really silly.

BO: STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS will open in an estimated 3,900 domestic theaters Antibody Dec 10, 11:17

seems low, would need to avg $50k per screen to get to $195M {nm} lapuckfan Dec 10, 11:54

that's theaters, not total screens {nm} slipping jimmy Dec 10, 11:59

It's the same thing when calculating the PTA/PSA. $195M/39000 = $50,000 average. {nm} Antibody Dec 10, 12:05

In this case though is not about exclusivity, but the restrictions to run on the biggest theater(s) for a month. {nm} Antibody Dec 10, 12:16

I meant screen(s) within a theater {nm} Antibody Dec 10, 12:16

I've read 4400+ so that figure is a tad low. {nm} Baron_Darcon Dec 10, 13:06

3900 came from Disney. Anything you read before was someone's guess. {nm} Antibody Dec 10, 13:14

Took a theater/show/screen count during IM3's OW and made a chart. Some basic data, w/Catching Fire added: m051293 Dec 10, 12:06

250 fewer screens than JURA4, AVNG2 & HGAM4?? I'm sorry but thats just not possible. {nm} skunkrunner Dec 10, 12:23

Disney's plan all along has been holiday legs. The stipulated that STAR7 has to stay on the biggest screen(s) for 4 or more weeks. {nm} Antibody Dec 10, 13:13

So with 3900 theaters how many screens might that be? Still selling like wildfire and selling out lots of theaters already. With that Baron_Darcon Dec 10, 14:05
