I see it this way. From all accounts I've read, SUPE2 promised what it couldn't deliver, an authentic conflict between heroes--
--only for the film to water down the significance of it with contrivances and plot contortions. Sure, there's some spectacular action sequences, but that alone will not keep the main contingent of the properties' fans--the diehard fanboys--coming back again and again.
A lot of guys are gonna see this once and wait for the Blu-ray or streaming. Far less than what a movie like this should accomplish.
For context, AVNG2 own director expressed dissatisfaction with the final cut of the movie and yet the reviews were kinder, and the overall fan patronage still got the film to nearly $500M domestic, a tally I don't foresee with SUPE2. That's unfortunate.
