The problem for MoviePass is that they had a flawed and unsustainable buisness model.
They had to purchase tickets from the individual theaters at full price. They were paying more for 1 ticket to an evening show in major cities then what they were charging customers for a monthly pass. The more movies people saw using MoviePass, the more money the company lost.
I know they wanted get major chains to partner with or have them purchase the demo and movie usage info they were gathering on their customers but when not 1 major chain signed on, they could never make money without raising prices far beyon what AMC was charging. They were already hopelessly in debt even before the AMC announcement.
