Circular argument...Limbaugh has used this for years. So, because you utilize a racist viewpoint and get called out for it, you attack the
attack? Racist conservatives now say the red rose is not red. Who the heck teaches debate anymore? Oh, right, that was cut from school budgets because it indoctrinates socialisism into unsuspecting conservative kids.
See, when you parrot responses from right wing idealogues that are essentially: "I know you are but what am I?", you are not furthering the discourse of a civil society. A better response would be to ask why is your commentary racist. Perhaps you can learn why it is or perhaps you cannot understand. So, I will try to explain.
The minority is smaller than the majority. When the majority makes decisions, they often do so to benefit just the majority at the expense of the minority. A white guy is hired because the white boss is more comfortable with the white guy because he looks like him, talks like him, etc. A civil society takes this into consideration and says that race, religion, etc should not factor in.
In Hollywood, they have always tried to make a buck and even make art, too. As the professional pool of actors becomes more diverse, opportunity abounds for those actors if and only if Hollywood produces films that reflect diversity. There are plenty of films made that are mostly cast with white folks or even all. There are fewer films with an all ethnic cast and there could be more. So celebrating a film that has all Asians is cool because it opens a window to see a part of our diverse culture that many may never see. It opens a window to those of that heritage to see that they too are represented in Hollywood as people...not just some martial arts cardboard character, for instance.
The majority always see something of themselves in art. Now, when you see a black guy playing the Human Torch and you go...Where the heck is Chris Evans? Johnny Storm is white! That happens a lot more often to an American Indian, an Asian person, any person from a diverse background. That is what Antibody goes on about. Personally, I think of an actor as a person who is paid to be someone else and the further it is from what they are, the harder the role to play. Denzel Washington playing Robert McCall is not that much a leap as race is not a huge factor in the original TV series. But try putting a bunch of white people in Crazy Rich Asians...and suddenly, that is a lot harder but certainly not necessary. American audiences got exposed to Toshiro Mifune, an amazing Japanese actor, because Hollywood actually gave important Japanese roles to him rather than casting an American like Warner Oland as Jackie Chan.
Giving voice to minorities is good. It is what a gracious, fairminded majority does. Globalism is good. Diversity is good. Homogenization is boring. But that seems to be a driving force in conservatism today...the homogenization of the US.
