He picks and chooses what guidance he gets from the CDC, the federal government and then just does whatever the hell he wants. Same with every other governor in the country. I believe you're in HK or China and it's easy to look at all the news being dumped out there and think you know what the United States is like but Cuomo is just as victim to pride and ego as President Trump and most politicians. That's just plain and simple fact.
Cuomo reopened the USS Intrepid over the weekend even though LARGE SHIPS like the USS Roosevelt and the Diamond Princess were some of the first major outbreaks that required quarantine. People were stranded on some of the cruise ships for weeks... but let's open up the doors to one so people, mainly tourist, can have access to touch things and spread COVID further.
So far, I haven't heard of any super spread situations from New York screenings of Bloodshot or The Hunt because NO ONE WENT TO SEE THEM... and that's what movie theaters are like across the country, so why not just let them open in New York with the same safety measures and see if they can start building up the audiences they need in order to be able those giant tentpoles again? The fact that Lionsgate has moved two movies that weren't even gonna make a tone of money in a non-COVID environment tells me that this domino effect is gonna guarantee more theater closures outside New York, some permanently.
Anyway, Cuomo's book comes out in two days so maybe then we can figure out what goes through his head when he declares that movie theaters aren't as safe as gyms and bowling alleys and casinos, all of which have been reopened for weeks and seemingly doing fine economically while theaters, both chains and independent theaters are struggling from zero income. I bought a copy on Kindle just so I'm not tempted to burn it after reading it.
