did they just not apply for PPP relief? if it's only an issue of back rent being owed, it doesn't make much sense to shut down a whole chain

like, if AMC could cobble together a billion+ in financing to get through . . . a few hundred thousand in back rent is small potatoes

it feels like there has to be more to the story we're not privy to

Deadline: Pacific Theatres - Arclight Cinemas closing is now Deadline Official. notfabio Apr 12, 17:05

Pacific Theater built and owns the Cinerama Dome. Antibody Apr 12, 17:16

So it should be its own landlord at the Hollywood location. {nm} Antibody Apr 12, 17:17

It *should*. As it would be a travesty to wasted a landmark Hollywood theater. :( {nm} Jay_Beezy Apr 12, 17:19

*waste. {nm} Jay_Beezy Apr 12, 17:22

Apple or Amazon should make a serious offer if they can cherry pick Pacific/Arclight locations. Netflix has a 99+ year deal on The Egyptian. {nm} notfabio Apr 12, 17:25

The Dome is right down the street from Netflix. {nm} Antibody Apr 12, 17:29

Big ole poke in Netflix's eye by a rival if they can get away with it and Netflix is stuck with the money pit that is The Egyptian {nm} notfabio Apr 12, 17:32

Disney also reportedly sniffing around at theater locales {nm} budice Apr 12, 17:32

DL updated the article. "part of a thick lease negotiation" the landlord decides if they want the exhibitor back. {nm} Antibody Apr 12, 17:25

This could be negotiating in the press, but that statement and the gist I got from former Pacific/Arclight employees was pretty final. {nm} notfabio Apr 12, 17:28

People outside LA just need to understand how much of a big deal this is. {nm} budice Apr 12, 17:28

somebody will buy/take over the Hollywood location if only for the Dome alone (QT won't let it die) {nm} cake boss! Apr 12, 17:30

I'm not sure QT would pony up the money himself since I'm sure he's losing a bundle on New Beverly, but someone sure. {nm} notfabio Apr 12, 17:42

he owns NB and they mostly play his prints {nm} Moviesnob Apr 12, 20:17

People in L.A. need to understand that they're not the center of the world -- guy from NYC :) {nm} TheWeekendWarrior Apr 13, 00:57

Neither is NYC anymore... {nm} ~JPV~ Apr 13, 09:49

Had a feeling something like this might be coming. What dreadful news. Heartsick over this. goodvibe61 Apr 13, 00:18
