Sure, but when there's that big a drop from one week to the next....

as both Space Jam and Black Widow tanked this weekend and Space Jam didn't even have a Thursday opening to blame. This is looking a lot like March last year when people started freaking out about going to the movies even before theaters shut down. Anyway, read the article. It's linked below.

moviesnob et al: after BW, Space Jam, Snake Eyes, (presumably) Jungle Cruise all looking at sub-$200m domestic are we at the predicted cake boss! Jul 26, 12:25

What’s Free Guy expected to make? Jay_Beezy Jul 26, 12:31

There was an article on DL today about how everyone is burnt out on everything, especially looking at ANY screen TheWeekendWarrior Jul 26, 12:31

People wren't burnt out for AQPL2, FAST9 and BWDOW opening weekend. {nm} Antibody Jul 26, 13:05

It’s all about audiences’ favorite IPs and their quality. {nm} Jay_Beezy Jul 26, 13:13

Exactly, it's content content content. The trades publish these lazy anecdotes whenever box office slows down. {nm} Antibody Jul 26, 13:16

Sure, but when there's that big a drop from one week to the next.... TheWeekendWarrior Jul 26, 13:39

Because both BWDOW and SJAM2 debuted day-n-date. {nm} Antibody Jul 26, 13:48

V: Why ‘Black Widow’ and ‘Space Jam’ Quickly Sank at the Box Office “There’s clearly a lot of cannibalization going on,” says Handler. Antibody Jul 26, 13:57

but none of them are going to top $200m. exhibitors can't live by opening weekends alone cake boss! Jul 26, 13:19

That's due to the windowing, not people "burnt out from looking at screens". {nm} Antibody Jul 26, 13:21

whatever the cause, the old model doesn't feel sustainable at these numbers if it continues (on either side) cake boss! Jul 26, 13:25

Are Space Jam, Snake Eyes or Jungle Cruise going to even top 100M domestic let alone 200M? Jay_Beezy Jul 26, 14:33

probably not but i was construing it most favorably to them. i think 1995 was the last year where none of the top 10 broke $200m cake boss! Jul 26, 20:03

I didn't write the article. {nm} TheWeekendWarrior Jul 26, 13:34

Here is the article, which again, I didn't write. It's not my opinion, it's Michael Cieply's TheWeekendWarrior Jul 26, 13:38

LOKI is doing better than TFAWS and Wandavision. {nm} Antibody Jul 26, 13:06

Yes, they will have to look at alternative content just b/c of the new windows. Lets wait until 2023 before digging their grave. Moviesnob Jul 26, 13:57

Wait, you want to actually check for a pulse before declaring Cinema dead?! What kind of freak are you!?! :P {nm} DTravel Jul 26, 17:20

Reduce budgets, not everything has to cost $200m. Take a less-is-more approach and stop overwhelming audiences with bloat. {nm} HurricaneKid Jul 26, 14:15

budgets are going to come down, but that it will noticeable to audiences who are used to big budget effects {nm} Moviesnob Jul 26, 14:38

Hence the less-is-more approach. Keep the quality of the effects. Just use less of them. The best special effect is a good script. {nm} HurricaneKid Jul 26, 20:07

Oh, come on... we all know how much better Minari would be if it broke out into an outer space laser fight! {nm} TheWeekendWarrior Jul 26, 20:15

Outer space laser fights are like bacon. Everything is better with them. {nm} DTravel Jul 26, 21:06
