Is it because the studios have decided that they don't want to produce and release commercial adult movies to the theaters, so they susbtitute these specialty releases and make them wide?
They've basically killed these two movies' longevitiy before they've really started. It doesn't make any sense.
All you have to do is watch the opening scene of Tar and you know the LAST thing you have here is a commercial release. It should be in the theaters for the long haul, culminating with Oscar Nomincation time frame; not a wide release for Halloween. The movie does a million dollars on an opening wide release weekend. Just ridiculous and a waste.
And Till. when are the studios going to figure out the situation with these movies, of deciding American movie goers need to be taught civics lessons and the like. Who is itching to go see this movie? Watch the trailers. And I know for a fact; if you're going to put out a "feel bad" movie, the people that put together the Banshees marketing did a far, far better job of it than the Till people did, and it's not close. Because i i did not know where Banshees was going whatsoever until i sat there and took it in, and even though it's about as bleak a film as I've ever seen regarding human nature, the movie left me thinking about it for hours. Banshees is going to last. Till, I doubt it.
Nobody was itching to see Till, like nobody was itching to see Bros. These movies are going to appeal to an extremely narrow group of movie goers. Why treat them as something else; something else that they're not? Analysts and the studios saying this stuff about Bros and why it failed. OK, if you say so. It is what it is. Don't treat the movie like something else. And in Till's case, don't treat as anything other than what it should be in terms of release strategy.
I'm just amazed by this stuff. It baffles me.
