Dogtooth (first 30 minutes): D. WTF, I mean c'mon, really?!?

The Way Back: So disappointing. Was hoping for a great Guy Film a la Platoon or Perfect Storm or Wier's last film Master and Commander, an inspiring tale of brotherhood in the face of adversity, but alas nowhere near those. Boring characters made for uneven acting. Harris and Ronan pull it off, Farrel came across as cartoonish, and Sturgess with maybe the most non-existent presence I've seen. As for plot, that there is no real danger at any point gives the men nothing to overcome. Except thirst, and thats not dramatic thats just time consuming. (2 hours of walk, nearly die of thrist, find water, repeat until credits roll) If the movie had just ended with the survivors reaching freedom, movie may have warranted a C-, but the coda here is so shockingly inept, I was left with an even worse feeling. This was such a bummer for me.

Mechanic: So my problem with this was that I was expecting Statham as hero and a buddy flick. Its definitely not a buddy flick, so thats more my fault. But with Statham, in any action flick the hero has to be a good guy. He can break laws, kill, etc if its done to put away bad guys. Right away (SPOILS) he kills his best friend just going off a (doctored) photo. He doesnt do any due diligence to save his friend. That right there lost me. How can I root for the hero if he does that? (Thats what I meany by gullible. "Your friend did this bad thing and you need to kill him., "Uh Okay." Geez! And Fosters character fate was flawed. Yes he had issues, but he was basically abandoned, then loses hos father. Statham should have done more training to turn him good. (END SPOILS) So basically this movie should have been a Statham/ Foster father figure teach the ropes buddy actioner, then I would have liked it!

Crank 2: Amy Smart deserved some kind of award for going (almost) full on nothing held back awesome!
