Disney, CinemaCon - updates

Posted by: PVL Admin (a.k.a Rocket123) on Mar 29, 22:56

Play by play of what's going on at cinemacon:

"An extended clip from Winnie the Pooh won a big "awwww" from the audience. The July 15 release should do very well among families."

"The comedy winner was Puss in Boots, who showed 15 minutes that played like catnip."

and other interesting tidbits...

Cars 2 bombed BIG TIME at CinemaCon... I think there was one laugh during the 20 minutes shown... this is PIXAR we're talking about. {nm} secretstalker Mar 29, 22:59

Maybe it wasn't meant to be a funny twenty. Could you decipher an attempt at humor and it just failed?or were there no lines? {nm} PVL Admin Mar 29, 23:30

it's Pixar. it's not Merchant Ivory. Any twenty minutes of a Cars movie should be a laugh a minute {nm} mickpix Mar 29, 23:43

Pixar isn't pure comedy, Wall-E had very few laughs, Up had long serious stretches... {nm} lapuckfan Mar 30, 07:12

"He p$#@ed in what?!?!" {nm} Richard In G Mar 30, 09:40

I've thought about this for a while now, and feel that I must respectfully disagree. Rocket123YTD Mar 30, 15:01

Yeah, totally agree... ;) JK {nm} PVL Admin Mar 30, 15:05

Surprising horlicks Mar 30, 05:05

Yes, well, there's a good chance that maybe Cars is a concept that works better in 5 to 10 minute increments. {nm} secretstalker Mar 30, 06:12

I don't recall Cars being a comedy. {nm} AgentEvil Mar 30, 05:13

Were there kids in the audience? The first one wasn't that well received by adults either, but kids gobbled it up. {nm} BionicMoron Mar 30, 05:18

Cars made $244M Domestic, $218M Foreign, $245M in DVD Sales...to do anything less would be quite a blow for Pixar lobogotti Mar 30, 06:30

True, but it's the OW that matters right now. How much higher than 60 can we expect it's growth? 80? 100? {nm} PVL Admin Mar 30, 10:32

Toy Story 1-2-3 went 29-57-110, or close to doubling with each sequel. BionicMoron Mar 30, 10:38

I agree, Cars is not Toy Story. So, a 30% increase is not over-reaching? {nm} PVL Admin Mar 30, 10:59

I seem to remember the first CARS (the full thing) going through similar long stretches of silence back at ShoWest. {nm} notfabio Mar 30, 07:11

gee thanks - wonder which way you're holding the stock? {nm} click999 Mar 30, 08:51

and how much did Cars actually open to ,,, IMO overvalued {nm} bunty_ketti Mar 30, 01:12

OW= 60.1; Total Domestic = $ 244.1 Domestic PVL Admin Mar 30, 01:21

IMHO Cars2 will be the first critical and box office dissapoinment for PIXAR, when you make a decision based on gogreen Mar 30, 11:12

I seem to recall people saying that CARS would be Pixar's first box office dissapointment as well. {nm} Hooray360 Mar 30, 11:36

I doubt it'll be a financial flop, but it certainly isn't looking like an awards contender {nm} tribefan695 Mar 30, 12:13

Muppets kinda flopped too LariatSam Mar 30, 15:56

Muppets weren't big film grossers to begin with. {nm} Antibody Mar 30, 16:08
